Microstructure and Raman Scattering of CdS Films Obtained by Chemical Deposition

  • Published:
Journal of Applied Spectroscopy Aims and scope

The crystallographic structure, elemental composition, and surface morphology of cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films chemically deposited at T = 62 ± 1°C onto glass substrates from an aqueous solution consisting of NH4OH (25%), CdSO4 (0.0096 M), and CS(NH2)2 (0.8 M) were studied. The characteristics of the films were obtained by scanning electron microscopy and studies of their phase and elemental compositions and Raman spectra. The selected solution composition and deposition modes were shown to synthesize CdS films with the stoichiometric composition that consisted of nanocrystals of the hexagonal modification suitable for solar cell applications.
