Assessment of the Relationship Between Water Level Changes in the Chirkei Reservoir and Electrical Resistivity of Rocks in the Right Bank Region of the Hydropower Plant Dam

  • Published:
Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

The results of investigating the relationship between water level changes in the reservoir and variations of the apparent electrical resistivity of a rock mass in a well located in the bypass seepage zone of the dam are given. The fact of lagging of the apparent resistivity behind the reservoir water level is established by means of the average seasonal functions method. Physically substantiated mechanisms explaining this effect are proposed. On the basis of the investigation results obtained, a new method of long-term regime observations of the electrical parameters of the rock mass is proposed, which can be used for estimating deformation processes in the sides of high dams related to water level changes in the reservoir.
