Stability of Natural Circulation in a Vertical Boiler-Utilizer Loop with Horizontal Evaporator Pipes During Startup

  • Published:
Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

Theoretical studies and field tests of the stability of natural circulation in the pipes of the horizontal evaporator of the PK-55 boiler-utilizer at the South-west Heat and Electric Power Plant (Yugo-zapadnaya TÉTs) are discussed. The experiments cover the stages of evaporator heating, onset of steam production, and stable natural circulation. During these studies the gas turbine was started and then held at a load of 5 MW. It is concluded that the evaporator with horizontal boiler-utilizer piping built for operation with repeated forced circulation can operate reliably for long periods in a natural circulation regime.
