Water-Soluble Polysaccharides from Datura stramonium Leaves and Their Prebiotic Activity

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

Polysaccharide constituents including water-soluble polysaccharides, pectic substances, and hemicelluloses were isolated from Datura stramonium L. (Solanaceae) leaves. Their monosaccharide compositions were established. The monomer compositions of the isolated biopolymers included neutral and acidic monosaccharides. Prebiotic activity was found for the water-soluble polysaccharides isolated by cold water.
