New Iridoid Glucosides from Caryopteris odorata with Suitable Antioxidant Potential

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

In search of new bioactive molecules from Caryopteris odorata, two new regio-isomeric iridoid glucosides were isolated from its ethyl acetate soluble fraction. Their structures were established as 8-O-caffeoyl caryoptoside (1) and 8-O-caffeoyl shanzhiside methyl ester (2) using FAB-MS, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and 2D NMR spectroscopy. These molecules exhibited suitable antioxidant potential when evaluated with DPPH·(1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical) and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) assay.
