Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Aims and scope

An energy method was used to describe a size-dependent distribution of cavitation bubbles when throttling the flow of a fluid in a control valve assembly comprising a cylindrical separator and a butterfly locking device. The parameters having a significant impact on the throttling of the working medium were distinguished among numerous process variables. An analysis of the stochastic pattern of variations in the intensity of cavitation bubble formation, obtained taking the distinguished parameters into account, showed that the transition from the initial stage of throttling toward the full opening of the valve is associated with a reduction in the number of cavitation bubbles by 1.06 times, provided that their sizes are reduced by 1.36 times.
