Samenvatting
Een van de meest bekende voorbeelden die Elisabeth Loftus gebruikt om de beïnvloedbaarheid van het menselijk geheugen aan te tonen komt uit haar eigen geschiedenis. Zij verhaalt hoe haar oudere broer haar vroeg of ze zich ook niet de omstandigheden rond de zelfmoord van haar moeder kon herinneren. En ineens kwam een herinnering bij haar op: het lichaam van haar moeder drijvend in het zwembad, de ambulancebroeders die vergeefs mond-op-mondbeademing deden. Enkele weken later belde haar broer om zich te verontschuldigen.
