Abstract

Climate Change (CC) has enormously influenced our cities in recent decades. The viewpoints regarding cities have been changed from sustainability to resilience and adaptation. However, measuring urban spatial adaptability to CC is still a big issue. Drought and flood are prevalent and coexist in the centre of Vietnam, especially in Ninh Thuan Province and are costly extreme weather events. The regional and city-level findings show that urban spatial structure has changed over time and caused conflicts with the operational regime of Drought-Flood Coexistence (DFC). This research aims at establishing the indicators to quantitatively measure the adaptability of urban spatial structure to DFC across scales. The research includes four parts. The first part introduces general information about the study. The second one reviews the current literature on measuring systems of adaptive cities and studies the context of Ninh Thuan province and Phan rang-Thap Cham context. The third raises the study methodology and methods. The central part of the study is the fourth, to propose quantitative indicators to measure adaptive urban spatial structure in correlation with DFC in Ninh Thuan province. The final part is the study's conclusions.
