Abstract
The term Indo-Pacific has become extremely important for India’s Act East Policy though its Indo-Pacific strategy remains work in progress. Although India portends working forward to expanding its diplomatic outreach across the Indo-Pacific, its primary area of concern remains the Indian Ocean region. It is mainly due to a China-driven Indian Ocean perspective of India that this chapter examines the significance of India’s vision of building a Free and Open Indo-Pacific region. It elucidates India’s concerns and initiatives in addressing various China-driven the rivalries in the Indian Ocean region and how India can play a meaningful role in the larger Indo-Pacific region. It also explores into the impact of China’s Indian Ocean policy and its security implication for India’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific narratives.
