Abstract

In order to achieve a faster cooldown time for the cooled devices with rapid cooldown requirements, a larger cooling capacity of the cryocooler over the entire temperature range from ambient down to the cold operating temperature is required. The instantaneous cooling power depends on the phase characteristics at the cold end of the regenerator decided by the coupled phase-shifter and the operation mode over the whole cooling process. The performance of an existing regenerator with different temperatures and phase characteristics at the cold end was simulated based on the software REGEN 3.3. The simulation results can be used to guide the reasonable selection of the phase-shifter and operation mode in order to realize a fast cooldown.
