Abstract

This chapter reviews the policies related to the integration of migrant children of post-dependency age in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. All six GCC countries exercise specific rules and regulations for the entry and residence of migrants’ dependants. Children are no longer considered dependants after reaching a certain age and hence require separate residence rights. This restriction remains the same irrespective of the principal migrant’s skill category. The policy structure is complex in significant ways and requires detailed analysis. In this context, this study engages with integration policies related to migrant children in each GCC country. It uses secondary data such as country-specific policy documents, relevant reports from non-governmental agencies and academic studies to analyse the integration process. The chapter reviews the benefits provided by the states in making dependants eligible for future residence, such as the right to education, employment and healthy living opportunities. The objective is to document the relevant policy structure and provide a detailed analysis for academics, policy practitioners and state institutions.
