Nanomaterials: The Building Blocks of Modern Technology

Part of the book series: Smart Nanomaterials Technology ((SNT))

Abstract

Carbon-based nanomaterials have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their unique electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties. This chapter provides an overview of the synthesis, characterization, and applications of carbon-based nanomaterials, including carbon nanotubes, graphene, and fullerenes. The chapter begins by discussing the properties and synthesis methods of these materials, including chemical vapor deposition, arc discharge, and laser ablation. The chapter also explores the various applications of carbon-based nanomaterials, including in electronics, energy storage, catalysis, and biomedical applications. Furthermore, we highlight the challenges associated with the large-scale production and commercialization of these materials, as well as the environmental and health impacts of their use. Finally, the chapter concludes with a summary of the current state of research and suggests possible directions for future work in this exciting field.
