Abstract
Breast cancer mortality is fleeting in females worldwide. Numerous genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors contribute to breast cancer progression. It is a conditional hormone disease that depends mainly on estrogen regulation. A higher percentage of breast cancer patients are estrogen receptor positive. Estrogen-related receptors are a group of orphan nuclear receptors that share a high level of homology with ERα. The ERR family comprises ERRα, ERRβ, and ERRϒ. Among them, ERRα and ERRϒ have essential roles as transcriptional activators and repressors in cancer and metabolism, respectively.
Estrogen-related receptor beta (ERRβ) is negatively regulated in breast cancer cells, and overexpression of this receptor in breast cancer patients is associated with a longer chance of remission and a better prognosis. Our study highlights the significance of the orphan molecule, ERRβ, and its multiple signaling events in breast cancer progression. So, targeting ERRβ could provide a significant breakthrough in the breast cancer research.
