Abstract
There is a considerable development in Bardoli region of Surat district which is covered of black cotton soil. This paper describes the test results of various properties of black cotton soil such as Atterberg’s limit tests, Proctor compaction tests, California bearing ratio tests, and unconfined compressive strength tests with and without adding the various mixtures of Lime and Road Building International (RBI) Grade 81. Test results of these tests show the improvement of properties of black cotton soil using the additives. However, the best performances are obtained for a mix treatment corresponding to 6% lime and 5% RBI Grade 81 contents. Using 6% lime, we can save up to 25%, and using 5% RBI Grade 81, we can save up to 18% pavement cost.
