Abstract

Manned spacecraft has diverse needs such as high reliability, multi-target TT&C, image and voice communication. Compared with ground-based TT&C, TDRSS with advantages such as high TT&C coverage, high data transfer rate, diverse link, and outstanding economic benefits has become the main means for spacecraft TT&C and communication. In this paper, the characteristics of manned spacecraft TT&C and TDRSS are summarized, and the applications of TDRSS for manned spacecraft are studied from three aspects including multi-garget TT&C, key event support, capability improvement and optimization. Specifically, a TT&C method with two TDRSS following is proposed to provide dual target continuous tracking in match docking, and a TT&C access method combining single-site and multi-site is proposed to increase the TT&C coverage by 64% based on a single star-to-star antenna. Furthermore, two feasibility studies are conducted, one is to achieve 100% TT&C coverage by adjusting the installation direction of terminal antenna, the other is to replace parabolic antenna with phased array antenna.
