Childhood Glaucoma

Abstract

Retinoblastoma is the most common malignant intraocular tumors in children. Five distinct pathophysiologies for raised intraocular pressure in retinoblastoma have been postulated. Glaucoma in retinoblastoma indicates an advanced nature of the disease. It is of utmost important to rule out retinoblastoma in any child with late onset unilateral buphthalmos and hazy cornea due to raised intraocular pressure. Management of glaucoma with retinoblastoma includes either primary enucleation or systemic chemotherapy along with aqueous suppressant drugs. Early diagnosis and management of retinoblastoma is paramount for prevention of advanced nature of disease where the prognosis for eye salvage is poor. This chapter outlines various scenarios where retinoblastoma in children was complicated with glaucoma and the management for the same is highlighted.
