Abstract

Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT), a new aromatic polyester, has become a potential competitor to PET and PBT in the textile, packaging, and engineering thermoplastics markets due to the discovery of cost-effective synthesis. The chapter first discusses the synthesis of PTT and various PTT nanocomposites and then discusses various traditional methods of solid-state characterization techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and FTIR spectroscopy used to characterize crystallization, morphology, crystal structure, conformations, and molecular orientation. We described in somewhat greater detail the recent work on thermally induced and strain-induced crystallization studies of PTT and PTT nanocomposites.
