Abstract
Writing is the essential core skill for every researcher who wishes to procure a research grant. This is one of the ways that one can communicate their work or plans to their peers, reviewers, or target audience. Nearly every researcher or scientist needs to write grants and gain funding in order to carry out their research. In today’s competitive environment, all the institutions/universities assess the performance of their scientific staff based on the successful funding achieved in addition to other parameters. Many institutes during recruitment even consider the in-hand grants or a successful track record of completed projects as well as the potential of the applicants to obtain funding and prefer such candidates and justifiably so. As such, grant writing is a skill that every researcher has to develop. However, it does not just stop here. Winning grant writing is the ultimate target, and successful execution with the dissemination of results in high-quality journals and conferences is the logical conclusion. The aim of this chapter is to present the funder’s/sponsors perspective while assessing the grant applications and providing the prospective grant writers with key considerations while planning their grant application.
