Abstract
Investigations were made with several nose cone fairing of blunt body with an attempt to understand its flow field characterises. Experiments and computations made to the different bodies indicate flow field variations which characterises the nose shape influence. Tests were made at a Mach number of 2.0 with a Reynolds number of 3.5 × 105 based on blunt body diameter. Experiments include force measurement using one component strain gage balance and flow visualisation. Turbulent simulations using k-ω closure model were adopted with axisymmetric grids. There appears to be a good match between the experimental observation and the computed results. The results obtained in the present investigation provide initial inputs to studies of blunt bodies with drag control techniques adopting, breathing nose, spikes, counterflow, etc.
