Abstract
This chapter’s main goal is to understand the Chinese approach to health governance as a tool to achieve global governance, examining the Chinese health sector while focusing on: (i) the evolution of the Chinese healthcare system from 1978 until the present day, and major health reforms undergone since 2009 until now; (ii) the public policies applied under the “Healthy China 2030” plan of action; and (iii) the Health Silk Road—integrated into the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)—describing its goals to evince the geo-economic contours of the initiative, especially after the emergence of COVID-19. As the People’s Republic of China (PRC) assumes a new pattern of globalization, the analysis will follow this premise, using a qualitative methodology based on hermeneutics and literature review.
