Abstract

The traditional Chinese philosophy of “the symbiosis between the actual, the spiritual world” has long existed, serves as the theoretical foundation of paper cutting.The earliest paper cuttings discovered so far were unearthed from the Astana Cemetery of the ancient city of Gaochang in Xinjiang. Among them, the most valuable paper cuttings were the Symmetrical Horses, Flowers, Symmetrical Monkeys, Flowers, two symmetrical chrysanthemum-shaped paper cuttings.
