Maternal Mortality - Lessons Learnt from Autopsy

Abstract

Vascular anomalies are currently divided into two distinct categories of vascular tumors and vascular malformations. Such uterine vascular anomalies are uncommonly located in the female genital tract and are rarely detected during pregnancy. In the two cases presented, the entire uterine myometrium showed multiple large dilated vascular spaces in the entire thickness, which were filled with occlusive thrombi. This had caused post-partum hemorrhage and pulmonary thromboembolism, respectively.
