Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study on the cost benefit (B / C) of the implementation of a wind power system consisting of a small-scale vertical axis wind turbine for residential use in the municipality of Puerto Cortés, Honduras. The cost of electricity in Honduras and its growth in recent years calls for a search for self-consumption technologies to meet electricity demands. Photovoltaic solar systems are being used to power households with this purpose, however, wind energy has not been used in residential applications yet. The investigation was carried out with a mixed approach, part of the research will be a numerical analysis through a technical and financial study and the determination of factors such as the location and type of wind turbine constitutes the qualitative approach. The investigation considered the cost effectiveness of the system by evaluating monthly energy consumptions of 250, 500, and 750 (kWh). As the main conclusion, a B/C greater than “1” was obtained for the considered consumptions, indicating that the project is profitable for the urban residential sector of the area.
