Abstract
Advanced knee arthritis along with an extra-articular deformity either in femur or in tibia poses a challenge to the surgeon. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with extra-articular deformity may be treated either by a meticulous intra-articular correction or a corrective osteotomy at the site of deformity. A thorough preoperative evaluation of the deformity is required in order to define best mode of treatment, i.e., intra-articular correction, simultaneous osteotomy, and TKA or staged osteotomy followed by TKA. Computer navigation in total knee arthroplasty is a valuable option for patients in which conventional instruments are difficult to use.
