Abstract
The main aim of this chapter is to identify and illustrate the challenges arising from the coexistence of statutory and customary land administration systems and their supporting infrastructures in urbanising Ghana. We provide an overview of important policies and regulations in post-independence statutory land administration. We then discuss the tensions emerging from the coexistence of customary and statutory land administration systems and highlight challenges to planning as a formal process. We argue that the challenges to land administration require administrative infrastructures that respond to values and norms as practised in the context of urbanising Ghana.
