Abstract
This chapter describes the service trends and various use cases of 5G technology, which is being launched worldwide, along with a brief review of the related standardization of communication technologies. In addition, concrete examples of 5G trials of communication technologies and some use cases are also introduced. These are trials and demonstrations that have been conducted to verify the possibilities of 5G by mobile network operators and network device vendors, in collaboration with companies in a variety of industries from 2016 onwards. Through these descriptions, it is demonstrated that 5G is not only an evolution of 4G communication technology and a very high-speed smartphone service, but also has the potential to create new businesses in a variety of fields, and 5G can be used as a platform to enrich the quality of our lives.
