Abstract
The topology of folded linear polymers such as proteins and nucleic acids is a key aspect of their structure. Circuit topology is a mathematically rigorous way of describing the topology of a folded molecular chain and is emerging as the preferred topology framework for modelling biomolecular folds. Here, we discuss the notion of circuit topology and how it can be used to formalize the arrangements of intra-chain contacts and entanglement in a folded linear chain.
