Pre- and Perioperative Management of Hip Fracture

Osteoporotic Fracture and Systemic Skeletal Disorders

Abstract

Sudden hip fractures focus on the fracture itself, but the individual problems of each patient are diverse, and treatment is not limited to only fractures. In addition to complex medical problems and comorbidities, various pre- and perioperative complications associated with the hip fracture itself need to be overcome. Published guidelines and many reports address the need for a multidisciplinary approach and the importance of a care environment for better outcomes. A combined management approach identifies and addresses not only the surgical aspects but also pain management, cognitive, nutritional, other needs of elderly patients, thereby improving the outcome for elderly patients. Comprehensive care is required for elderly hip fractures.
