Abstract
Solar cells are the device that directly converts light energy into electrical energy. The basic solar cell is a p-n junction diode. The cell is joined together to create a solar module and ultimately, a solar array from where the useful voltage and current can be derived. In this chapter, various types of solar cells such as crystalline, thin-film, dye, and perovskite have been discussed. The various applications of these solar cells in the field of solar power generation, portable electronic devices, defense, space, transportation, agriculture, etc. have been thoroughly presented. Also, the challenges and future scope of these technologies that certainly be shaping our future world have been discussed.
