Abstract

This chapter presents the concluding arguments of the edited collection, Social work theory and ethics: Ideas in practice. It contextualises the 24 substantive chapters contained in this volume in relation to some of the major recent developments in social work theorising and ethics. This volume has brought together 36 authors from 5 continents, tackling an exceptionally wide range of issues, drawing on over a thousand citations, across decades of social work theorising and ethics in practice. Their works are brought together in conversation across four arcs, which cut across the four parts into which this volume had been grouped. It is concluded that social work is eminently well-placed to continue its mission of responding to the complex challenges, and to the profound and intersecting crises, to which human activity has given rise, but which always also contain openings and possibilities for a more just and caring world.
