Illustrated Flora of Bambusoideae in China

Abstract

Shrubby bamboos. Rhizomes amphipodium. Culms diffuse with small clumps, slender; internodes terete, without grooves, culm walls thick; nodes inconspicuous or prominent. Branches 1 per node, often as thick as culm, erect or inclined. Culm leaves persistent, sheaths thickly papery to leathery, shorter or longer than internodes; auricles and oral setae present or absent; blades small, lanceolate. Oral setae of foliage leaves nearly vertical to culm, sheaths coarse; blades large or small, papery to thinly leathery. Inflorescence paniculate or seldom racemose, terminal, usually subtended by 1 or 2 tiny bracts; pedicels slender, erect or waved, often hairy; florets 3–8; glumes 2, thick; lemma apex aristate, or with a small cusp; palea as long as lemma, or a little longer, 2-keeled; lodicules 3, margins ciliate; stamens 6, anthers yellow, chambers 2, longitudinal cracked; style 1, stigmas 3, plumose.
