Abstract

Using beamforming method to localize the AE source has been developed for years. However, if there is no accurate wave speed, the localizing results of beamforming may have a great deviation. After analyzing the beamforming localization characteristics, by comparing the two arrays of localizing effect, an improved beamforming method based on X array is proposed to reduce the localization error caused by the uncertainty of array direction and speed. The pencil-lead-broken experiment on a thin plate is conducted to verify the presented method, the result shows that this method can effectively localize the AE source under the condition of unknown accurate localizing speed.
