Abstract
Optical bistability is demonstrated in the C-band in an erbium doped fiber ring laser, constructed using 25 m long doped fiber and wavelength-selective filter, with pump powers as low as 18–26mW. A bistable range of 3.5mW is obtained at the filter wavelength of 1545 nm. This range can be controlled by changing the central wavelength of the tunable filter incorporated in the cavity. A large length of the doped fiber is crucial to the process.
