Abstract
Internet of things (IoT) represents a fast developing technology comprising various interconnected things. The educational domain is in a different league today with the rapid rise of open universities and enhancement in technology. IoT technology has tremendous potential in the enhancement of learning process in many sectors such as school, college and university level. Education combined with technology is not only a major boost for rapid and simpler learning but also it increases the quality of studies among students. In academics field, IoT forms an agent of change that provides latest possibilities with opportunities in order to improve both the educational infrastructure as well as teaching methodologies. IoT forms a network of devices equipped with electronics, software components and different network connectivity based orientations with the aim of exchanging and aggregating variety of information. Application of IoT spans through various domains like finance, telecommunication and education field. When the focus lies in education domain, the chief reason is that IoT optimizes the education itself, thereby providing advanced and structured environment. IoT enables customization of education and provides access to students of information that they intend. Thus, IoT is a real game changer in future as far as education domain is concerned. This chapter analyses the scope and applications of IoT in the educational domain. Moreover, it discusses latest research works undertaken and its challenges in the educational field.
