Professional Values and Ethics: Challenges, Solutions and Different Dimension

Abstract

Values and ethics both are very essential for personal and professional success in the life of any individual. Values refer to those rules which help an individual to take right decision in life, and ethics are those moral principles that basically govern the behavior of a person. The word ‘Ethics’ has been derived from the Latin word ‘Ethos’ which means habit or custom. As far as professional values and ethics are concerned, they may be defined as those professional behaviors which are professionally accepted, inculcated by different institution/organization to instruct or guide all employees to behave and work as per consistent and real ethical principle. The major component of professional values is dedication toward work, self-motivation and to motivate others, responsibility, honesty, discipline, positive attitude toward every type of situation, etc. Similarly, the main component of professional ethics is accountability, transparency, adherence to law, etc. Both professional values and ethics help to enhance professionalism at the workplace. They do not only help to grow and develop the business but also create a good impression of the organization in the market and society. But sometimes, several ethical dilemmas popped up in the workplace such as sexual harassment at workplace, gender discrimination, unethical workplace culture, unattainable and unrealistic objective of the company, etc. Though solving theses major ethical issues is a complex process but stepwise recognition, identification, consideration, and implementation may solve this problem and create a better, congenial and healthy workplace for all.
