Abstract

In order to improve supply chain performance, it is crucial to improve warehouses’ performance. To this end, warehousing operations need to be improved. In this paper, we concentrated our improvement efforts on picking operations which are the most costly in terms of resource utilization. In order to do that, we propose a system, based on RFID technology, which can prevent picking errors which can be very expensive, considering penalties, additional transportation, handling costs, and other additional expenses. The proposed system’s objective is the prevention of picking errors so as to minimize additional charges and improve the overall warehouse performance. The proposed system is in the prototyping phase and shows promising results in the errors’ cost simulation presented in this paper.
