The Winter of Our Discontent and the Promise of Spring

Abstract

Justice, peace and ecology have to be approached holistically. Only by viewing them as an integrated whole can we hope to fashion a habitable and convivial future. To this end, we must regain control over unfettered, profit-seeking globalisation that has devastated human lives and ecosystems. We must accept that we are in the midst of a civilisational shift with the centre of gravity steadily moving back from the West to the East. Importantly, we must nurture and participate in dialogue with the other, prepared to listen to the pain of others, to the suffering we may have inflicted, acknowledge past wrongs, and accept responsibility together with others for righting the wrongs of the past.
