Distal Transradial Access for Arterial Angiography and Interventions: An Overview of Knowledge

Abstract

A new approach, left distal transradial access (ldTRA) through the anatomical snuffbox for endovascular catheterization and intervention is described, in order to increase patient- and operator comfort, and in order to prevent radial artery occlusions at the “conventional” entry site at the forearm. The rationale, backgrounds, anatomical characteristics, technique, tips to start a distal radial access program and to overcome the learning curve, the pitfalls and potential complications are explained in detail.
