Abstract
Mastery learning is the concept that all learners are able to achieve a certain set level of aptitude, and the variation is the method and time that is required for each learner to attain this level of mastery. There has been relatively slow uptake of its use across health professions educations, and until recently, most of the literature has focused on the learning of procedural skills within a medical education context. Nonetheless, mastery learning has excellent promise as a useful tool and framework in the area of health professions education.
