Abstract

In this thesis, the author regarded AZ31B magnesium alloy board as the welding parent metal to study metal inert gas (TIG) welding joint structure characteristics and mechanical properties. The findings showed that magnesium alloy weld joint presented the structure of the tiny isometric crystal. Weld joint owns relatively coarse crystalline grains. Also, welding metal is mainly composed of α-Mg solid solution and β-Mg17Al12 intermetallic compound. The tensile property of welding joint indicated that AZ61 welding wire can gain the high-quality weld joint. The strength reaches up to 91% of the parent metal. The fracture analysis showed that welding joint first fractured in the weld joint and the fracture shows the topographic characteristics of ductile–brittle mixed fracture.
