Abstract

Lately, watermarking techniques have evolved at a rapid pace. A digital watermark is the data that is embedded in the host data in such a manner that it is neither detectable nor removable. A watermark may contain data related to the host data or can contain any secret data that is to be transmitted to the receiver without anyone knowing. In this paper, we overview some of the techniques that have been in place for embedding watermark into various kinds of media like audio, video, image, text, and printed documents. Finally, to overcome the drawbacks of the existing techniques, we propose a possible solution of making use of optical watermarking technique. Optical watermark is a multi-dimensional image. It makes hidden data retrieval very difficult.
