Abstract

Wideband design of rectangular microstrip antenna using multiple slots on the radiating patch and ground plane at fundamental mode frequency of 1500 MHz is proposed. The slots tune TM02 and TM12 mode frequencies on radiating patch and TM02 mode frequency of the ground plane, to yield wideband response. Bandwidth of more than 370 MHz (>22%) is realized in multi-resonant configuration. The proposed design gives radiation in bore-sight direction and shows peak gain of more than 8 dBi. Parametric formulations for different antenna parameters for the proposed design are presented. The antenna designed using them at different TM10 mode frequencies yields broadband response. Thus, the proposed work clearly explains the functioning of multi-resonant slot cut antenna in terms of patch resonant modes, and formulations will be used to design similar antenna at specific TM10 mode frequency.
