Abstract
It is not uncommon when studying ancient cultures that the only information available to historians and archaeologists leads to conclusions at odds with apparent facts. A remarkable example comes from ancient Egypt. Our knowledge of ancient Egyptian mathematics comes substantially from a collection of papyri, and most particularly the Rhind and Moscow papyri.
