Samenvatting

Door een ongeval ontstond een gecompliceerde enkelfractuur bij een nu 78-jarige vrouw. Na behandeling blijft sprake van aanhoudende pijn rond de enkel. Moet de enkel worden vastgezet (artrodese) of is er implantatie van een enkelprothese mogelijk? Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft wat voor typen enkelprothesen er bestaan, of men ermee kan sporten en welke complicaties kunnen optreden tijdens en na de operatie. Ten slotte wordt een implantatie van een enkelprothese vergeleken met een artrodesebehandeling.
