Samenvatting
Autotransplantaten werden in het verleden al veelvuldig toegepast in de Scandinavische landen als mogelijk alternatief voor implantaten. De indicatie lag vooral bij jonge patiënten bij wie elementen met open apices werd verplaatst naar gebieden met agenesieën. Het grote voordeel van autotransplantaten met een open apex is het vitale parodontaal ligament en de levende stamcellen rond de apex, waardoor deze elementen meegroeien met de ontwikkeling van de kaken van patiënten in de groei. Het autotransplanteren van elementen met een afgevormde apex is ook mogelijk en volgens de wetenschappelijke literatuur zijn de resultaten even goed als de resultaten van autotransplantaten met een open apex. Binnen de tandheelkundige verwijssituatie van Proclin Rotterdam, waar orthodontisten, parodontologen, endodontologen en restauratief tandartsen nauw samenwerken, zijn de afgelopen dertien jaar bij vergelijkbare indicaties ook transplantaties van elementen met afgevormde apices uitgevoerd. Bij afgevormde apices zijn het in de literatuur vooral de molaren die verplaatst worden, terwijl binnen Proclin Rotterdam alle mogelijke elementen worden gebruikt. Indien de resultaten van autotransplantaten worden vergeleken met de resultaten van implantaten, blijkt dat bij dezelfde indicatie de resultaten van autotransplantaten op zijn minst vergelijkbaar te zijn.
