Samenvatting

De opvang, beoordeling en behandeling van suïcidepogers in het ziekenhuis vragen veel van velen. Zowel van verschillende disciplines in het ziekenhuis als van ggz-professionals wanneer de patiënt weer thuis is. In het ziekenhuis moeten somatische en psychiatrische zorg op elkaar aansluiten. De complexiteit van suïcidaliteit en de zorg die daarvoor nodig is, vragen om samenwerking en afstemming. Richtlijnen helpen hierbij, evenals deskundigheidsbevordering van de verschillende professionals. Psychiatrische diagnostiek en behandeling, ook acuut, zo nodig onvrijwillig, zijn nodig, liefst in samenwerking met naasten. De opvang van suïcidepogers in het ziekenhuis wordt idealiter gevolgd door passende en aansluitende zorg en behandeling. Dit vraagt om adequate organisatie van de nazorg, waarbij continuïteit wordt nagestreefd. Gaan patiënten naar huis, dan is het nodig de compliance met de gegeven adviezen in de gaten te houden om daarmee hopelijk recidive en suïcide te voorkomen. Ketenzorg is daarbij een voorwaarde.
