Samenvatting
Dit hoofdstuk gaat in op de anatomie van de thorax en fysiologie van het hart. Een afwijkende bouw van de thorax kan zowel oorzaak als gevolg zijn van cardiale afwijkingen. In dit hoofdstuk wordt de ligging van het hart in de thorax beschreven, en hoe deze zich verhoudt tot oriëntatielijnen aan de buitenzijde van de thorax. Vervolgens worden de anatomie van het hart en het hartzakje besproken. Hierbij komen de kleppen en hun projectie aan de buitenzijde van de thorax aan bod, evenals atria en ventrikels. Ook is er uitgebreide aandacht voor intracardiale drukken en de functies van linker- en rechterventrikel. De effecten van druk- en/of volumebelastingen, respectievelijk hypertrofie en dilatatie, zijn van belang om de pathologie te kunnen begrijpen.
