Future Consideration

Abstract

Hernia has experienced a dramatic change in the last two decades. After the golden age with Bassini, Billroth, Mac Vay and all other pioneers in suture repair, the last two decades have acquired new knowledge in the physio-pathology and metabolism of the hernias; new discovery in biomaterial from synthetic, semi-absorbable to biological, a new concept in surgical repair called “tension-free repair” till the endo-laparoscopic and single or reduced port surgery. In the last few years the use of robotic-assisted surgery for ventral hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction seems to make it easy and is challenging all other alternatives.
