Recent Development in Wireless Sensor and Ad-hoc Networks

Part of the book series: Signals and Communication Technology ((SCT))

Abstract

In this chapter, we discuss some issues and challenges related to multi-channel and multi-radio networks. We classify channel assignment (CA) schemes into static, semi-dynamic, and dynamic and discuss methods proposed in each category. Other aspects presented are related to primary users (PUs), network capacity, interference, topology control, and power- and traffic-aware protocols. For a better understanding, some basic concepts related to wireless communication are explained. An understanding of multi-channel algorithms in general could help in designing additional algorithms for wireless sensor networks (WSNs).
