Abstract
In this chapter, the nucleation and growth mechanism of pores in metals are represented in order to explain why the directional pores are grown during the unidirectional solidification. The presented models are consistent with the model experiment of ice-freezing from water containing carbon dioxide. It is shown that the mechanism of pore formation in lotus materials is much different from that of foaming process.
